I was just trying to get an idea of how restricted things are in vegas right now. I’ve gotta make a trip out to register for the contests and I’m trying to decide if I want to spend a day or two or get in and get out.

Do the hotels have room service available?
Do you have to wear a mask everywhere?
Are restaurants open?
Are casinos open?

Let me know if any can share their post covid vegas experience.

just got back a couple of days ago. it's relatively busy imo. mostly stayed at wynn/encore/mirage...$25 mins on everything. downtown was decently busy as well. the nugget was packed!
most restaurants are open or opening up soon...
masks everywhere. although we didn't wear them at the pool.

Have had quite a few "staycations" since re-opening...pretty much stay anywhere for free.
No room service at any hotel where I have stayed and haven't heard of it being offered anywhere.
Mask = yes. You are supposed to where at the pool, but not in the pool unless you want to.
Probably 60-70% of restaurants open, but check as even if open, many limit to certain days (many dark Mon-Wed for instance)
Most casinos open...notable exceptions (there are others) Palms, Planet Hollywood, Linq (for rooms), Rio, Tropicana, Cromwell, Park) Mirage just opened last week.
Strip is much less busy than locals casinos. Cosmo and Harrahs are busiest...Wynn/Bellagio/Venetian look to be about 60%. I don't venture downtown so can't speak to that. The only thing I hear from downtown is excitement over the Circa...the rest could be open or closed and it doesn't really make that much difference.
BTW...eviction moratorium ends tomorrow and they say about 250,000 could be impacted although the courts will be so backed up in issuing orders there is no way to know the timing.

L5Y, USC is 4-0 vs SEC, outscoring them 167-48!!!

Was there beginning of the month. Not the same. Walking the strip at night sucks. Limited options to eat in the hotels. Bars closed unless its there's a bar within a restaurant.
Gaming is fine.

FYI

There was room service at the Palazzo when I was there in early July. And as stated in my review that was linked, face shields were allowed at a variety of casinos (I would strongly advise looking into it if that's in your comfort level as it's much easier to breathe if you're going to be at tables for any length of time). The Wynn and Caesars properties only allow masks. It's also fairly easy to get around as both foot traffic and cars are relatively light.

Oh and Uber/Lyft aren't the timeliest right now (limited amount of drivers). I rent a car and they're quite cheap right now. Going back on the 7th (through the 10th) for a Blackjack tournament and got a rental for $67 for all 3 days.

I would make it a short trip if my goal was getting into contests.. Vibe just isn't the same right now. Could list a few things why.. Starting with wearing masks and bars aren't open

I agree, I live in Vegas I hit local casinos maybe twice a week to load or withdrawal from app or to hit counter for bigger limit bets. If you wanna come drink, drug and fuck this isn’t a great time IMO.

I talked to a friend that stayed at Aria and he said maid service is provided, they just ask that you press the button in your room for service (as opposed to the maid coming daily like they used to). I also shot an email to that host at the Wynn that I had spoken to and he said the Wynn is providing maid service.

I'm starting to thing the "no maid service" thing is predominately Caesars properties, which actually doesn't surprise me as they're kind of the "Karens" of the bunch.

I figure the Aria think is MGM policy so it would equate to the 1/2 of the strip owned by them. I'll be curious what Red Rock is doing and will ask when I'm there next week. I would say the Caesars thing is certainly more extreme than the other casinos. At both Harrah's New Orleans and Caesars I was told I wouldn't see a maid but to call if I needed supplies (similar to your Silverton experience).

The maids are still in the hallways cleaning the checkout rooms so you can always grab one for what you need. Thing I miss most at this point is sitting at the bar, playing video poker, watching the games and talking up bar mates. Governor on TV today to extend the moratorium on evictions (the day before the last edict expires...good timing by this idiot), but no mention of bars opening. For those who don't live here, people who applied for unemployment in March/April/May still haven't got a check even though approved. That number is about 30,000. We don't pay state income taxes and we get what we don't pay for...total incompetence.

Agree about spending some idle time at the bar playing VP.. Drinks are always coming too.

To be fair Bob, the maid service you're talking about is really much more about Caesars properties as that's where you play. But as mentioned, that type of service is not consistent across the board.

Most people I know tend to agree that the Governor is an idiot, But Nevada is actually doing as good, if not better than many states on unemployment. According to this article in the Review Journal....

An analysis of U.S. Department of Labor data shows the state’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation not only paid people faster than many states, but it improved its speed in March and April — even as the state reported the highest unemployment rate nationally amid record numbers due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Paying out 87.7% within one week of filing is actually pretty remarkable considering the amount of claims. Texas had similar problems to Nevada in that there was just no way to get through to the Workforce commission if you had a problem and there are similar stories to Nevada in people that haven't received unemployment. It's really to be expected considering the amount of claims needing to be processed. It's easy to be critical, but Nevada has 6 times as many claims as it did during the recession of 2008. It sucks to be part of the 30,000, but to get 171k in claims taken care of is still pretty impressive and ranks Nevada 17th in the country (and yeah, sure everyone would like to be #1 in that category).

I honestly think most of these Vegas threads can be summed up quite easily and people's expectations going in are going to determine the type of time they have.

If someone is going in with the expectation that you're going to be drinking at bars, going to night clubs, strolling into a pool effortlessly, expecting to see shows open, and every restaurant open....you are not going to have a good time because your expectations are unrealistic. Plenty of states have restrictions on bars (not sure why that would be such a surprise to anyone)

If you take that into consideration and realize that there are still good restaurants open, plenty of table service to get drinks, sports books open, plenty of good gambling, and it's much easier to navigate the crowds (not sure why that is characterized by so many as a bad thing as it's actually quite pleasant)...you'll have a good time. My first trip back wasn't fun because I came in with the wrong expectations. My second trip was much better and quite enjoyable.

Personally, I come to Vegas for gambling. I'm not one to sit around and drink all day. I'm also a little old to be clubbing. So my experience will be vastly different from someone that enjoys that stuff.

Here in Hawaii 245k filed for unemployment, which is about 40% of the work force. Our economy is beyond fucked.

Wearing a mask inside casinos is probably the biggest drawback for Vegas right now.. We can all pick and choose other issues making the experience good or not as desirable as it usually is.. Most people that go to Vegas to get away , let their hair down so to speak.. The experience just isn't quite there with restrictions at the moment.. I won't be going back to Vegas until we're done with restrictions..

Body you should move to NV as then you would be the only person in the state who suggests DETR has done a decent job. The gov was on TV yesterday stating they have hired 200 more agents who are in training, have 200 more on the bench and are bringing back retirees all to help DETR answer the phone. It's August and he shut down the state in March...maybe a bit slow on the planning huh? Three DETR directors since March probably doesn't help although they did figure out how to stop their Friday press conferences that used to report data on those paid and unpaid.

Agree, which is why I won't go into a casino that requires it

Stating that the unemployment department has done a better than average job based on all the states in the country given the current situation is simply looking at statistical data and making an observation. I am well aware of the problems regarding unemployment payments in Texas and other states, which I think is a rational way of judging how well Nevada has done (and there are 33 states that have not done as good a job). I think it's very easy to be critical, but given the situation with 6x the amount of claims as the highest amount the state has ever had, I don't think the numbers are as bad as you make them out to sound. While you're casting blame, you might save some room on that bus for the last 30+ years of politicians (both R & D) who still have unemployment departments using an antiquated system using COBOL, which you need a specialist to run because no one uses it.

I also think it's pretty irrational to think that nightclubs would be open for obvious reasons.

This has nothing to do with any opinion of the Governor of Nevada.
